-5 values...5 values5values5values -bony landmarks -bones don't move. muscles rest on top of bones..look for bony landmarks -start from pelvis and work your way up (I've found this method works best for me) -stop trying to see dark shadows on the light side. -follow the form (when crosshatching) -follow the form -follow the form -follow the form -line weight/quality -I hate charcoal...except the hb charcoal pencil. and maybe the 2b.
I probably think a lot more things..but this is pretty much what swims around in my head when I'm drawing figures. |

I'm still fighting with smudging and lines... but I'm learning with each drawing I do in charcoal/that sanguine chalk color. |

-slept for 14 hours, after 2 days of real shitty sleep, and one day of no sleep. -started to fall asleep (head jerking) in anatomy. My notes, well, I can't read them, because I have no idea what I wrote (chicken scratch). -how I made it home, I'll never know. I don't really remember. Which is really dumb, since I drove. Next time I'll just sleep in my car for an hour and then go. -I actually got an F on my skeleton drawing project, only because I forgot to bring my skeletal tracing from a master drawing. hahah. I'm bringing it to his workshop today.
I think I was one of only two crosshatchers in my class. How depressing!

My kneecaps are a touch too low. and it was mentioned in the critique that the butt needed to be fattened up a little. Overall, it was an ok piece. Got a "B"
( tragedy strikes )
edit:
For the past two nights I've only gotten about 6 hours of sleep, total. And I'm not going to sleep tonight. I have about 5 1/2 hours before I have to get ready for school again. My skeleton drawings are due. |

I silently cry inside every time we have to do 1 minute gesture drawings, but today I seemed to be in a happier place, and actually enjoyed most of the 20 that we had to do

I still have a long way to go, but I like practicing. And I still hate charcoal. You can tell I hate it by the way I shade with it. hah. I need to work on that.

Solitude mp3 The .zip contains this and three other variations of the same song. It's from the film Tony Takitani. Ahhh.. that was a good movie.. .zip

 Vasily Kalinnikov
I seem to bring up Kalinnikov a lot. It's just because I think he's wonderful. And I have an impulse to share things I come across. I uploaded his first symphony (I may be the only one who finds this remotely exciting, the fact that I uploaded it,but the thought of sharing it is enough for me ^___^): .zip. (the second movement, Andante Commodamente, frequently goes on repeat.. and the latter part of the Finale, lovely too.) ... I'd suggest starting off with Andante Commodamente (should you choose to download). |

| empty classrooms are fun |
[Feb. 17th, 2007|05:22 pm] |
 Friday/Townsend building/11:40am-3:00pm/skull drawing/empty classroom; room 307
 Saturday/Townsend building/8:40am-4:00pm/ribcage drawing/empty room set aside for students;room 303
Sorry I keep updating, but I think it'll be neat for me to look back on all my foundation work in a year's time.
My new favorite thing is copying down room information to see when a classroom is going to be empty (so I can move in and do my thing for however long).
I have to do life size bone drawings for anatomy (which I intend to paint). Today I spent over 7 hours on a ribcage that I haven't even finished the line drawing to. ;_________; I was joking with a guy who showed up around the noontime hour about how incredibly incredibly incredibly ..s l o w.. I am with graphite drawings. |

taken with my cameraphone..shhh!
Yesterday on Bart, I was next to a 70something lady who was reading Aristotle: On Man In The Universe. She was on the Metaphysics part, and had post-it notes everywhere. I saw her get off at the 16th/Mission stop, and I can't help but wonder where she went. There was a quote on page 7 that I liked (hahah. I either am really nosy, or I just have good eyesight), and I might have to check that book out, just so I can find it again. |

| Franklin Booth book scans for reference/you! |
[Feb. 10th, 2007|02:40 pm] |
I've been checking out as many books as my arms can carry, from the library. And I've been scanning in all my favorite bits from each and every one of them. It's proving to be a very slow and laborious process, but I'm dedicated and determined.
Anytime I start to feel discouraged by my preference for lines, I just look at things by Franklin Booth, and i feel better again. ^____^ (I still sort of struggle in my charcoal medium intensive classes, but it's getting easier.. maybe because I've been practicing every single day in trying to find a middle ground with the stuff.)

Had to run an errand downtown (bought a $50 school book. Murder, I tell you.. murder).
I also needed to pick up a few things in Chinatown; things in which I ended up never getting a chance to get (sigh. Oh well. Online ordering it is, then):

he was on Grant St. He's a pretty passionate fella. I heard him three blocks away
